The Multilingual Web: anything missing ?

This panel takes place between 10.30 and 12.00, Thursday 18 May 2000. It is organized in the context of the 9th International World Wide Conference, Amsterdam, 15-19 May 2000.

Internationalization (I18N) is concerned with the basic mechanisms for languages; for example, large character repertoire. Multilingualism is concerned with processing several languages; for examples, facilities for multilingual sites, translation or multilingual parallel texts. I18N could be considered a layer below multilingualism. The I18N is well advanced. But, what is the situation for multilingual ?

The Chair Memo contains an overview of existing mechanisms and a list of new candidate mechanisms. A report will be prepared after the panel. Please send your suggestions, or simply your manifestation of interest, to carrasco@dragoman.org.
